THREE BLIND MICE

SINGLE-PACK

This is a simple patience which more or less operates itself. This one does not turn very often (about one time in ten) and has a way of getting stuck very near the end which you may find amusing or aggravating depending on temperament.

Use a single 52 card pack and deal out ten piles of five cards, overlapping so that you can see all the faces, as shown in the illustration.

All the cards in the seven piles on the left should be face up, but the bottom three cards in each of the three piles on the right should be face down. Keep the two odd cards on one side and play them wherever possible.

Three Blind Mice Starting position.

The object is to build each of the four suits in descending sequence (Queen on King, 8 on 9, etc) from King down to Ace. This is done directly by building cards onto each other in suit.

For this purpose the card being built onto must be on top of its pile, but the card doing the building can be anywhere except further down the same pile, so long as it is face up. If there are other cards on top of the one being built, they are carried with it.

When one of the blind cards is exposed it is turned over and can join in the play. Kings may be played into the spaces which arise when one of the ten piles becomes empty.

The illustration shows the start of a game. From here we can put the ♠ Q directly on to the ♠ K, but the ♦ 5 has to wait until the ♦ 6 is exposed

The building might start with the ♣ 7 being played on the ♣ 8, keeping the ♣ 3 and ♥ A on top of it. This exposes the ♥ 3, so we can continue by putting the ♥ 2 (and ♦ 7) on the ♥ 3. Now one of the blind cards is exposed and can be turned over.
